However, if you’re still set on visiting this beautiful place, you’ll first have to prepare yourself for a four-day walk through the mountains. - Antarctica has probably got to be the most remote place on Earth. Getting there requires special permission, so you’ll have to be either a scientist or a military person to get in. - Located 3,300 miles away from New Zealand, Pitcairn Island is home to 50 citizens. The island is so isolated and barely inhabited that the British government has actually been asking people to move there. - If you manage to get to the island of Socotra, you’ll feel like you’re in some sci-fi movie about distant planets. The island is so isolated that a third of its plant and animal species are nowhere to be found except for Socotra itself. - The Kerguelen Islands belong to France, is similar to Antarctica in that it has no original inhabitants. Only about 50-100 French scientists and researchers live there all year long. - Located just a few hundred miles from the Arctic Circle, Oymyakon bears the title of the coldest town on Earth. The average yearly temperature is well below zero, and the record low is (get ready for this) –96.16°F! - Barrow has no roads of its own and neither do any roads lead here. The only way to get to this hermit town is by plane from Anchorage. - The only way to reach Ittoqqortoormiit from Greenland’s airport is by helicopter, which already says a lot about its accessibility. Still, or maybe even thanks to that situation, it’s a pretty popular tourist spot. - As the northernmost town in the whole world, Longyearbyen is really cold. People are not legally allowed to be buried there because bodies simply don’t decompose in the ice-cold ground. - La Rinconada sits 3 miles above sea level in the mountains of Peru, among ice, snow, and rocks all year long. There’s also no running water or sewage system, and, according to CNN, 68% of the population live below the poverty line. - The inhabitants of Iqaluit are really proud of their main attraction: The Road to Nowhere. Its trick is that you start off from the town and walk or ride on and on until you end up, well, in the middle of nowhere. - Tristan Da Cunha is said to be the most remote inhabited place in the world. It’s 1,742 miles away from the mainland of South Africa and its population of 258 people live happily there, boasting a total of 9 different last names!
